What are the different lock types?

5 lever mortice deadlock

This is a typical deadlock that can be locked and unlocked from both sides with a key, commonly used on wooden doors.

The 5 lever mortice deadlock can be ‘keyed alike,’ allowing one key to operate multiple locks.

However, it has only undergone testing by the manufacturer and does not meet British Standards. As a result, it may not withstand modern burglary techniques.

5 lever mortice deadlock BS3621

This lock is similar to the 5 lever mortice deadlock, but with the significant advantage of meeting British Standard BS3621.

This ensures the lock is more secure, offering enhanced protection against picking and drilling.

To identify your lock as BS3621 approved:

  1. Look for the BS3621 number engraved
    on the faceplate
    Look for the British Standard

  2. Kitemark engraved on the faceplate

Multi Point Locking System

This key-operated locking system secures the door at multiple points, typically ranging from 3 to 5.

Whilst it provides a high level of security, improper use can result in the door not being fully locked, leaving it susceptible to burglars.

Rim Automatic Deadlatch

This type of lock is often used as an additional security measure and can be operated with a key from both sides.

The most common version is the night latch, which automatically locks the door when it is closed. While convenient, this feature also increases the risk of accidentally locking yourself out.
